About the role
A placement for students and recent graduates who want to learn the craft: how to find a story, how to get someone to tell it, and how to shorten it without losing the meaning. You will sit in on interviews, then do your own, and see your pieces published. Terms are discussed with each candidate.
What you will do
- Talk to organisations and individuals, first alongside the team and then on your own.
- Draft Story Shorts and short stories from those conversations.
- Record sources and permissions for everything you write.
- Help find new stories and people to speak to.
What we are looking for
- Currently studying or recently graduated; no experience needed.
- Good spoken and written English and a habit of reading the news.
- Curious, careful, and happy to pick up the phone.
Helpful, not required
- A blog, college magazine or any writing you can show.
- Another Indian language.
A small task to include
Take any news story you like and write it as a 60-word summary that someone could read and understand without the original. Then write the three questions you would ask the people in it.
Put it in a document or page and share the link in your application, or paste it into the note.
